I would propose to the adda readers to start a "Book Section" part in Adda digest in which small parts of bengali popular stories, limericks, poetries,articles and introduction of the writer will be published. But at the same time I would request you not to send criticism of writers if you dislike him or her. We already had enough fights and debates here on various matters.

Let me tell you about MAGPIE Award Winner Mahasweta Devi's story of a cow Nados I had read in Sandesh magazine when i was in class V. I still like reading the story, which I have read more than hundred of times.

I would advise my friends to read TORAY B(N)ANDHA GHORAR DEEM by Satyajit Roy if you are demoralised or frustrated due to any reason. This is the best book of Bengali nonsense rhimes after Sukumar's works. Clear clean laugh with a modern view than Sukumar - a great book. Publisher 'Ananda Publisher' .

Namashkar. This is my first posting to bengali adda. I am Debashis Chatterjee - a "probasi bangali" in Silicon Valley, leading the software team of a start-up (what else ?) in the field of audio/video compression/decompression, working 60+ hour/weeks with the very, very, distant hope of making some money in the future.

First I would like to thank the gentleman who posted the extract from Nadosh. Reading it again after so many years was such a pleasure. Can you imagine that the same hand which wrote "Aranyer Adhikar" and "Hajar Churashir Ma", could also write Nadosh ? Mahashweta Devi, by distancing herself from the Anandabazar group's clout, is probably not as widely read/sold/known as the Sunils and the Sanjeebs, but that does not belittle her claim as the premier novelist of her generation.

I also enjoyed the extract from Satyajit Roy's Papangul. It is of course a translation from Edward Lear's Jumblies, but what Satyajit did was more of a transliteration. In many cases I enjoyed his rendition more than Lear's original. Allow me to present a sample.

Lear wrote.

A bearded old man said "Hush !
I can see a bird inside the bush !"
When asked "is it small ?",
he said "Not at all.
It is four times as large as the bush."

The accompanying picture was that of a bird sitting atop a bush quite obviously too small to support it, and a man was standing in front of the bush. This became, in Satyajit's pen,

I would say this is not inferior to any other original creation of literature. I would very enthusiastically recommend ""a¡s¡u hy¡d¡ O¡s¡l ¢Xj'' to anyone who hasn't read it. Similarly, I would always tip my hat to Mr. Chandan Roy Choudhury (I hope I got the name right, I am shooting from memory), for his wonderful English translation of Abol Tabol. When I read

I always thought these lines can never be translated in any other language without spoiling the charm. But when I read those lines in English, I had to bow down my head in respect to the translator -

A keen primordial lunar chill
Nightmare's nest with bunchy frill
In my drowsy brain such glimpses steep
And all my singing ends in sleep.

I am a big fan of bengali "chora" (rhymes) and would like to see some in this page. Some of the "chora"s of Sankha Ghosh, Sadhana Mukhopadhyay etc are real gems. Here is a few lines from a tongue twister, somewhat similar to the well known "Betty botter bought some butter" etc, but a far superior one.

Japanese 'HAIKU'S are poems expressing philosophy of life in a nutshell. Some of you have seen A James bond film "You Only Live Twice". This name is coined from a'Haiku'-

You only Live twice
When You Live
And when You die.

One important characteristics of Haiku is it should have exactly 3 lines in it,not more and not less. Shibram Chakrabarty once told that 'Haiku' are poems written by poets who smoke Hukkahs (hubble-bubble).From H(N)uko the name-> Haiku. 1.

I would like to end Part 2 with a tragic chhaiku that I picked up ages ago, but I cannot remember the poet's name:
